A common element can be represented in many different ways in a set of multiple pieces. In this set of three there is a bowl, a vase, and a plate. The bowl has a dragonfly cut out of it to create a large section of negative space. The negative space is so big that the dragonfly cannot be seen without appearing warped due to the curve of the bowl. Blue stain traces the lip and negative space to create a continuous edge. The plate is approximately 25 cm in diameter and 2 cm tall. The same dragonfly shape appears on the face of the plate. Stain, brushed on,  traces the shape but on the actual dragonfly there is only clear glaze. The absence of the stain shows the dragonfly. The vase is approximately 20 cm tall. The same dragonfly shape was traced onto the vase and then a thin layer of clay around the dragonfly was shaved away to create an edge rather than a line. This also gives the allusion that the dragonfly was applied to the vase. The dragonfly is stained blue and clear glaze covers the project. All three pieces have the same size dragonfly on them, but it is demonstrated in a different way each time. Techniques in alterations and glazing of projects can highlight the same feature or shape using different methods.
