A tall bowl that I threw today

I just can't get over how well this pumpkin turned out! The stain is a bit thin but other than that I love it.

Here is my second pumpkin. I am going to 'carve' it tomorrow!

Yesterday I threw a pumpkin on the wheel. I made a cylinder, closed it, and used the rubber rib tool to creat the indents that pumpkins have on them. Since I need a hole for it to be fired, I didn't close the stem completely. It has a small hole going straight down into the pumpkin. Today I used footing tools and the rubber rib to round off the bottom, smooth it out, and make it stable so it would sit on a flat surface.

I am pretty excited about this project. I threw a cylinder, closed it, and created a stem with the extra clay. I couldn't foot it, so I used footing tools to round off the bottom. I made a hole so it wouldn't explode when bisqued and created a worm to come out of the hole. Finally, I created a leaf and slipped and scored it on.

Today I footed this bowl that I threw last Thursday. I now have quite the collection of identical bowls at home...

This is my bisqued wheel altered project. I really like the symmetry in one direction that was created.

Today I footed and carved negative space into a bowl that I threw yesterday. The bowl is about as tall as it is wide. The negative space is a dragonfly, the same design I used in my most recent vase.

I threw this vase last week and traced a dragonfly shape on the outside. To create an edge rather than a line, I scraped away a thin layer of clay, creating the impression that the dragonfly is popping out of the vase. Because the base is so thin, I was not able to create a foot ring; the bottom is just smooth.

The first project I threw today was this bowl. It is a basic shape but the lip flares out more than a traditional bowl.

In the remaining time, I threw a small plate. Sorry, Ms.  H., but I broke your string tool when I was cutting it off the bat.

On the second day back on the wheel, I created a vase for my tall project and a bowl. As visible in the picture, the bowl's lip is cracked because I widened it too quickly. I will foot the projects tomorrow.

Today is the first day of the semester and the date of birth of this blog. Art will be created tomorrow.
